“I was really lucky to be put in touch with Sanctuary Lodge. I was in such a state when I started researching my options for residential rehab that I wasn’t thinking straight. Luckily for me, Sanctuary Lodge was exactly what I needed.
My first pleasant surprise was the friendly and understanding welcome that I received from the staff and the other residents. I expected to be judged for my problems but what I got was understanding and acceptance from the moment I arrived.
You can tell that the whole centre is brand new with great social spaces and extremely comfortable personal bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. It was really easy to settle into such a homely environment.
What really helped my recovery was the incredible insight that the therapists have. As professionals also in recovery, they knew exactly what I was going through and identified with the problems I was facing. They quickly got to the root of my issues and challenged me to work on myself.
The atmosphere at Sanctuary Lodge was so supportive. I had trouble sleeping at night but there was always a member of staff around who was happy to chat over a cup of tea. The fact that they are also in recovery meant they knew exactly what I was going through.
I learned so much at Sanctuary Lodge and I’ve continued to practice the 12-step programme since I left. Coming back for the After Care Programme has made it easier for me to keep in touch with the friends I made and stay focused on my recovery.
I’ve had many periods of sobriety on my own but I kept relapsing. During my time at Sanctuary Lodge I started the 12-step programme for the first time and now I have structure and goals that are helping me to stay sober.”
