Sanctuary Lodge is located in the beautiful old market town of Halstead, 7 miles north of Braintree in Essex. Interestingly, the word Halstead in Old English translates to ‘place of refuge’ or ‘safe place’. The town offers a plethora of traditional shops, restaurants, and interesting walks. Halstead offers a picturesque setting and has won Anglia in Bloom two years running. The local residents and shopkeepers are warm and friendly, and welcome visitors to the town. At the top of the town’s high street is the stunning 14th Century St Peter’s church, which can be appreciated by churchgoers and historians alike. The town also offers other attractions such as the local Antiques Mill and a nature reserve.
Sanctuary Lodge itself is situated conveniently behind Halstead’s NHS hospital. The facility is surrounded by open countryside and parkland, promoting a feeling of calm and open space; it is an ideal starting point to embark on one of the many local nature walks. Situated directly to the left of the facility is a children’s play park and playing field, making it an ideal place for families to visit. There are many interesting and historical buildings in the town of Halstead, and it is a lovely place to visit.
