Drug Rehab in the UK
Whether it’s your first time coming to rehab or you’ve been to one before but are going through a relapse, we are here for you. When you’re suffering from addiction, it can seem like the whole world is against you. Negative perceptions of drug use and the stigma surrounding this condition can cause you to feel that you don’t deserve to get better. At Sanctuary Lodge, we aim to show you that you deserve feeling free, free from addiction and the stress created by it. Everyone is capable of recovery and leading a positive, vibrant life away from drugs.
If you’ve come here to seek help, you’ve already taken the most significant step. Facing up to the reality of drug use is hard. A stay in one of our 24 comfortable rooms could be precisely what you need to regain control and get back on track to long-term recovery.
How Does Drug Rehab Work?
At Sanctuary Lodge, we believe that while being treated, you deserve comfort, reliable care and a shoulder to lean on at any time. This is why we have 24 suites, so it never feels overcrowded. It’s decorated to a high standard, and we have a gym, a recreation room with TV, a holistic therapy room and much more. You’ll also enjoy chef-prepared meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We aim to provide a tranquil environment, away from the stresses of day-to-day life, in which your sole focus is getting better.
Upon arrival, you’ll be assessed by a certified psychiatrist and introduced to our friendly team of addiction therapists and support workers. We’ll also give you a tour, and you’ll get a chance to get to meet your peer group, with whom you’ll hopefully form a special bond as you work towards the same goal. Your detox plan is overseen by the specialist psychiatrist, who ensures all traces of the substance or substances you’re battling are purged from your body.
Once detox is complete, we begin the rehabilitation process. During rehab, we offer a range of traditional and holistic therapies. Holistic therapies, such as yoga and gong baths, help to heal your body, spirit and mind and give you calming alternatives to drug use. Traditional therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy and dialectical behavioural therapy aim to teach you strategies for thriving without drugs. These take place in a mixture of group and individual settings.
Once you’ve been introduced to everyone, our consultant doctor completes a thorough medical assessment. This, alongside your initial assessment, determines your requirements so we can devise a bespoke plan. We encourage you to contribute to your plan, and it’s always based on your needs and wishes. Your medical and psychosocial requirements are taken into account to make sure you receive the highest standard of care, specific to your unique circumstances.
During your stay with us, you’ll be monitored closely by addiction specialists along every step of the way.
The first stage of your treatment is detox. When you’re addicted to a drug, it hijacks the reward pathways in your brain and tricks you into drug-seeking behaviour. This can be very difficult to bypass. As such, your body must be cleared of the substance so we can treat the person you are underneath the drugs. We know that for a lot of people, the idea of detoxing is fraught with worry. Our team will treat you with the love and respect you need to get through it.
Withdrawal symptom management is one of our priorities throughout your time with us. In some cases, medical detox is offered. In all cases, we carry out a range of daily activities and therapies aimed at minimising the discomfort of withdrawal and helping you manage cravings.
Is any medication provided to manage withdrawal?
With opiates and benzodiazepines, you become dependent on having the substance in your body to function normally. This is called physical dependence. Most drugs cause uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms when you stop, but with these drugs, you’d be at risk during the detoxification process if you weren’t medically supervised. Medication helps to ease the worst of your symptoms, and we gradually ease you off the medication as your body gets used to not having the substance.
You’ll take part in a mixture of group and individual therapies. These therapy sessions are chosen based on your specific requirements. They will help you to calm down and relax without the need for drugs.
CBT is a talking therapy that has proven to be very useful in helping to address the emotional and mental aspects of compulsive behaviour and certain mental illnesses. You work together with the therapist to achieve a set of predetermined goals that help you to think clearer and in a way that allows you to take control of your behaviour.
DBT is a highly specialised form of therapy that we offer to some patients. It was originally devised to treat borderline personality disorder, which is characterised by strongly entrenched negative self-beliefs. DBT proved to be most helpful in preventing recurring suicidal thoughts that are often present in that illness. Recent practice has shown this method can be extremely helpful if you’ve suffered from repeated relapses and are struggling to find a suitable treatment. (1)
Recovery is a long-term process. Learning not to be too hard on yourself and take each day as it comes takes time. With the right support and guidance, we can help you get there. With us, your treatment doesn’t end when your course is finished. We take responsibility for aiding your recovery even after rehab with our free aftercare programme.
We provide a family support programme to help you and your loved ones adapt and create newer, stronger bonds; it is a safe place for actual communication and discussing all that was left unsaid before. It’s essential that the people who are close to you are on the same page – banishing addiction for good.
You’ll also automatically join our innovative recovery network, called Alumni. Everyone who has successfully completed a programme of rehabilitation at a UKAT facility becomes a member. We share BBQs in the summer and Christmas in the winter, as well as adventure days out. This lifetime support network offers friendship, support and sober companionship for as long as you need it. The Benefits of Drug Rehab
During rehab, you follow a timetable that’s full of activities, group sessions and individual therapy sessions. We make sure your time is filled with exciting and valuable things to do. Some of these are aimed at offering advice, guidance and a listening ear, while others are geared to helping you to modify negative behaviours and develop coping new mechanisms. We want you to be ready to feel better and safer once you walk out of our programme because you deserve it.
From the moment you step through the door at Sanctuary Lodge, our team of addiction specialists are on hand 24 hours a day to support you. If you’re struggling with withdrawal symptoms or you just need someone to talk to, one of our kind staff members is always there for you.
If you’re seeking free treatment on the NHS, outpatient services are what you would be offered, but they often include extended waiting lists and don’t provide a 24/7 supported environment, because support is limited to when you’re at the facility. (3)
How long does drug rehab last?
We offer programmes of different lengths, depending on your addiction, your health, your personal preferences and for how long you have been fighting an addiction. Each one of our programmes is designed to give you the optimum treatment for your needs. If you choose a more extended stay with us, you’ll take part in more therapy sessions and gain more experience.
The Cost of Drug Rehab
Choosing to go to rehab is an investment in your future. While private rehab is associated with higher fees than outpatient NHS care, you are paying for the quality of service. When you join one of our programmes at Sanctuary Lodge, you gain a fully equipped support network that will be with you for the rest of your life. Our facilities are state-of-the-art, and we have the time to give you the love and support necessary to help you overcome your addiction.
Making a one-off payment to work towards a future where you’re in control of your spending habits and physical health is one of the most worthwhile investments you’ll ever make.
